Share the Story Behind Your Pictures

Have you built a photography business around work you love? I’d love to hear the story behind your work, clients, & the business you’ve built around it.

Want to share the story behind your pictures and the business you’ve built?

Show the person behind your pictures

Explain why you do this work, who you serve, what matters to you, and the kind of experience you want every client to have.

Give future clients a chance to know you

Share your story in a podcast episode that helps future clients understand who you are, what you value, and how you work.

What you’ve learned building the business

Talk honestly about pricing, clients, time, boundaries, what you’ve learned, and what you want your business to become next.

Have a conversation about what comes next

Reflect on what’s working, what still feels hard, and what you want your photography business and life to look like next.

Hey, I’m Kerry. Welcome to the 'Behind the Pretty Pictures' podcast.

Everyone sees the beautiful finished work. But why do people hire you? And what does it take to build the business behind it?

That’s what we explore on the show. Behind every photograph is a person.

Someone who cares deeply about the work they create, the people they serve, and the experience they want to give them. I want to know why you do what you do, what matters to you, what you believe in, and what keeps you excited about picking up the camera.

I talk with photographers about the work they love and the businesses they’ve built around it. From real estate and weddings to portraits and pets, every photographer has a story beyond the pictures.

Because behind every photography business is a person.

Someone making decisions about time, clients, money, family, and the way they want to work.

Why do clients choose you? What have you learned? And what do you want your business to become?

We’ll explore both sides: the work you care about and what it takes to run the business. That might mean pricing, client experience, boundaries, workflows, what’s become too complicated, or something you’re still figuring out.

No rehearsed answers. No perfect business required. Just honest stories and useful ideas about building a photography business, living with it, and making room for the life you want it to support.

What Else Do You Need To Know?

Who should apply to be featured on the show?

Photographers with real clients and real experience to share, from weddings and portraits to property and pets. You don’t need a perfect business. I also welcome educators and industry experts who serve photographers or are linked to the photography industry.

What will we talk about during the interview?

We’ll start with you: why you do this work, your clients, and the experience you create. Then we’ll explore the business: pricing, workload, boundaries, systems, and life around it. We’ll finish with what you want your business to become.

Do I need to prepare a polished story?

No. You don’t need rehearsed answers or a perfectly packaged version of your business. My goal is for this to feel like an interesting conversation about your work and business, with room for honest questions.

What makes Behind the Pretty Pictures different?

We go beyond the finished pictures to the person and business behind them. This is a conversation about what you care about, how you work with clients, and what running the business is really like. You don’t need awards or a perfect success story.

A successful business isn’t only about what it earns or how it looks from the outside. It should also work for the person who owns it.

Behind the Pretty Pictures explores what it takes to build a photography business and shape it around the way you want to work and live.

(This helps us understand where you fit in the photography world and shape the conversation around your experience)
(This gives us a quick look at your work, your business, and what you’re already putting out into the world)
(Don’t overthink this, just give us an idea of the conversation, story, or topic you’d be excited to explore - and have fun with it too!)
(Give us the quick version of what you do, who you do it for, and what your business looks like today)
(This gives us useful context for your journey and the experience you’ve built along the way)
(This is a business podcast, so revenue gives us useful context about the stage and scale of your business. Hence why we only ask the closest range, not exact numbers. And yes, it stays private of course)
(Whether it’s just you or you’ve built a team, this helps us understand how your business actually runs behind the scenes)
(This is the heart of the show! We want to understand what keeps you interested, excited, and doing the work)
(Every business has something that feels unnecessarily difficult, and those honest conversations are often the most useful ones)
(Tell us what you’ve created, changed, or figured out that makes you stop and think, “Yeah, I’m proud of that")
(We’d love to know what you’re working toward and what you want the next version of the business to look like)
(Good, bad, messy, unexpected... if there’s a story you think people could learn from, we want to hear it)
(This helps us understand what would make the experience genuinely valuable for you, too)

I’d love to meet more photographers, videographers and people who support them.

Please share 2 or 3 people you think would be a great fit and would love to be a guest too. Thank you for helping me connect with more people whose work, business, and story are worth hearing.
